Dr. Luis Gutierrez joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Waterloo in April 2017 as the manager of the RF micro-electro-mechanical systems (RF MEMS) laboratory and clean room at the Centre for Integrated RF Engineering (CIRFE). He bears responsibility for the operation, maintenance, lab user training, administration, and promotion of CIRFE's test and fabrication facilities. Dr. Gutierrez (L. Gutierrez-Rivera) uses his expertise as a Research and Development Engineer to assist the individual members of the research group and external customers in the successful completion of their projects.
Before joining the University of Waterloo, he worked in the industry as a Researcher and Development Engineer. Also, Luis was employed by the National Institute for Nanotechnology (NINT) as a researcher. Dr. Gutierrez has led research projects in the industry and prestigious academic institutions such as the NINT and the University of Alberta, Canada.
Luis has authored more than 20 scientific publications and he is the author of a patent. His expertise includes Silicon photonic, CMOS process, Micro and Nanofabrication, Biosensing, Microfluidic, Electroplating, Diffractive Optics, and Electromagnetism.
