Tuesday, June 28, 2022

Every year, the top graduate students from each department within the Faculty of Science are nominated for two awards: the W.B. Pearson Medal and the Dean of Science Award.

Michael Noden received the W.B. Pearson Medal in recognition of his Ph.D. thesis: "Synthesis and Study of the Cyclic Lipopeptide Antibiotics Paenibacterin and Daptomycin" (Supervisor: Scott Taylor). This medal was created to honour Professor W.B. Pearson for his contribution to the University of Waterloo and to Canada as a research scientist and teacher. The medal is awarded annually to a PhD student from the Department of Chemistry in recognition of creative research as presented in the student's thesis.

Randy Fletcher received the Dean of Science Award for his outstanding performance in Chemistry's Master of Science program. His thesis was entitled, "Methodology Developments for the Electrophilic Aromatic Aminations of Secondary Amides" (Supervisor: Eric Fillion).

Congratulations to our Spring 2022 Convocation Award Recipients!
