To celebrate the recent publication of Belonging and Isolation in the Hellenistic World, a 'gala event' will be held in the evening of October 18. Featuring 18 essays by research associates of the Waterloo Institute for Hellenistic Studies, and edited by Sheila Ager and Riemer Faber of the Department of Classical Studies, this volume enhances our understanding of social (dis)connections in antiquity. The celebration will be preceded by a public lecture by Dr. Daniel Ogden, Professor of Ancient History (Exeter).

Prof. Daniel Ogden's lecture will begin at 5:30pm and is titled The Legend of Seleucus. It will be held at the Balsille School of International Affairs, Room 142 (67 Erb St. West, Waterloo ON).

The reception and book launch will be held from 7:00pm - 9:00pm in The Winifred Gallery at The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery (25 Caroline St. North, Waterloo ON).

Please RSVP to Brigitte Schneebeli at bschneeb@uwaterloo.ca. For further information about the volume, visit UTP Publishing.

Update:

It was a wonderful celebration a few weeks ago when the Institute, several of its Research Associates and Students from the University of Waterloo got to together at the launch party for the fruits of the Institute's first publication "Belonging and Isolation in the Hellenistic World". Prior to the launch party a group of about 70 participants was privileged to listen to a lecture by Prof. Daniel Ogden (University of Exeter) on the "Legend of Seleucus".

We at the Institute thank all who participated and attended. Stay tuned for more info on upcoming events and on the newly revamped WIHS webpage.
