Gendered Violence on Campus: Institutional Policy and Practice

This panel is hosted in collaboration with the UWaterloo Equity Office, and the Special Adviser to the President—Women’s and Gender Issues.  The panel will address gendered violence, with specific attention to institutional challenges and UWaterloo’s response.

Panelists:

  • Constance Backhouse, Professor and University Research Chair on the Sexual Assault Legislation in Canada, University of Ottawa 
  • Ian Orchard, Vice President Academic and Provost, UWaterloo
  • Chris Read, Associate Provost, Students, UWaterloo
  • Sarah Wiley, Vice President Education, Federation of Students, UWaterloo

Jennifer S. Simpson, Professor and Chair, Department of Drama and Speech Communication will serve as moderator.

All students, staff and faculty are welcome to attend. Guests will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue about this important issue and its impact on the lives of University community members.  

The panel discussion will provide the opportunity for Q&A and will be followed by a reception.

Following the reception, panel attendees are invited to a performance of Unconscious Curriculum: Rape Culture on Campus presented by the Theatre and Performance program in the Department of Drama and Speech Communication.  Performance takes place at 7 p.m. in the Theatre of the Arts, Modern Languages Building
