Speech Communication Award Winners 2019

We are proud to announce the 2019 winners of the Speech Communication program. Congratulations to all of the winners!

The Third Year Department Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Speech Communication.

This award goes to the 3rd year Speech Communication major who has the highest cumulative average.

Winner: Husneya Nasim

The Senior Student Department Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement in Speech Communication.

This award goes to the 4th year student Speech Communication major who has the highest cumulative average.

Winner: Alim Ravajani

Award for Excellent Performance, Paper, or Academic Project

This award goes to the Speech Communication major or minor who produced the most outstanding example of academic work in one or more Speech Communication classes during the previous year.  That work might be a speech, performance, paper, or or other project (or multiple pieces of such work) that stands out for its brilliance, especially in terms of the way it meets the Speech Communication Program objectives.  Students or faculty in the Speech Communication Program may nominate students by sending the outstanding work to the Undergraduate Advisor.

Winner: Nirvona Soraya-Galo “A Band-Aid over a bullet Wound: How the medical system is letting women down.”

Honourable Mention: Jerry Zhang “K-Pop Fandom and Foucault”

The Sylvia Hannigan Award for Excellence in Citizenship, Community Engagement, or Service

This award goes to the Speech Communication major(s) or minor(s) who engaged in outstanding activities outside the classroom in the previous year as they applied what they have learned in the service of extracurricular goals.  The Speech Communication program seeks to recognize a student, or students, for the ways in which they demonstrated an imagination for the public good beyond the classroom.  Students or faculty in the Speech Communication Program may nominate students by sending a description of the service work that was undertaken in a brief letter to the Undergraduate Advisor.
