Share your cultural background at convocation
Our student body is diverse and is made of many different backgrounds. If the culture you identify with has traditional regalia that you would like to wear, please feel free to do that at convocation.
Please email convocation@uwaterloo.ca to indicate your intention to wear culturally traditional regalia.
Are you a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit student?
In recognition and honouring the original nations and people of Turtle Island the University of Waterloo respects the wishes of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit graduands, who choose to wear traditional regalia to a convocation ceremony.
All First Nations, Métis, and Inuit graduands, are welcome to wear traditional regalia in lieu of a convocation gown. You may also choose to wear your regalia under your gown. The choice is yours.
By signaling your plans to wear your traditional regalia, it allows convocation organizers, and the Office of Indigenous Relations to know you are attending and can adequately plan and communicate details with you. Please indicate your intention to wear traditional Indigenous regalia by emailing convocation@uwaterloo.ca.
The University of Waterloo respects, honours and welcomes your decision to wear your traditional regalia to this milestone ceremony.
