Don’t travel outside of your home unless it is essential

Update for the University of Waterloo community

Earlier today, the Province of Ontario introduced tighter restrictions for three parts of the province to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

The new tighter restrictions apply to Toronto, Ottawa and Peel. With a record-high of cases of COVID-19 reported by the province today, however, I want to take this opportunity to be clear about the University’s message to our entire community:

Please follow government advice and don’t travel outside of your home unless it is essential.

You can help protect Waterloo with safety messaging

Update for employees

Over the last several weeks, we have continued to expand controlled access to the campus for some students and employees. As COVID-19 cases begin to rise again it is as important as ever that all of us in our University community play a part in limiting the spread of the virus, whether we are on campus or not.

We have learned from global public health experts that as the pandemic continues, it is important to move to messaging that reinforces the need to protect the safety of our communities, not just ourselves. Please consider how you can play a role in sharing information and reinforcing safety messaging to our students – and to one another – about ways in which we can protect our community.

Mandatory reporting of visits to campus buildings using Campus Check-In

Update for employees and students

As part of our staged return to campus plans for Fall term, we are sharing details of a three-point approach to supporting the health and safety of our campus community.

  • We have developed a tool called Campus Check-In that will help us monitor campus building occupancy levels and assist with contact tracing COVID-19 cases in our campus communities.
  • This tool allows us to follow up with effective contact tracing should there be any positive cases of COVID-19 on our campus.
  • Campus Checkin also includes a requirement for everyone to conduct a self-assessment before coming to campus. Effective, September 8, 2020, you must record every visit to campus buildings using Campus Check-In.
