Region of Waterloo COVID-19 instructions take effect today

Update for employees

On December 10, the Region of Waterloo’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Hsiu-Li Wang, issued instructions to workplaces and businesses under the Reopening Ontario Act to help limit the spread of COVID-19 in workplaces. The instructions take effect today.

The University has been proactive in many of the areas outlined by the Region, and thanks to our collective efforts across campus and current attention to the University’s safety protocols, we are well positioned to meet these instructions.

It is important to continue the following protocols to ensure we follow the Region’s instructions. Department heads, chairs and directors are responsible for ensuring these activities take place within their workplaces, and supervisors must monitor that procedures are being followed.

Staying safe over the winter break

Update for employees

As we approach the end of the fall term and begin our preparations for a well-deserved rest over the winter break, I want to share some advice on how to stay safe.

While in-person gatherings are not possible, there are many ways we can safely celebrate together. No matter what celebration your team chooses, we must prioritize one another’s safety. All employees are required to follow government, Region of Waterloo Public Health and University of Waterloo safety guidelines.

New COVID-19 screening requirement

Update for employees

Effective November 30, 2020, you must complete a new COVID-19 screening assessment before accessing campus.

We are updating our COVID-19 screening processes to align with regulations the Ontario government recently announced. With this new level of accountability placed on institutions by the Province, we are making a COVID-19 screening assessment mandatory for every individual who comes to campus, including essential visitors and contractors, and we will now be tracking compliance.

Update for employees

  • Students who test positive for COVID-19 can call the University’s new COVID hotline, 1-833-UW-COV19 (1-833-892-6819) for information and support.
  • If a student discloses to you that they have tested positive for COVID-19, you can now direct them to this phone number. You no longer need to directly inform the University medical director or associate provost, students.
