Looking beyond Step 3 to the fall term

Update for employees and graduate students

  • Ontario entered Step 3 of its reopening plan and is seeing positive trends in vaccinations and low numbers of COVID-19 cases 
  • While we may be able to significantly expand in-person experiences this fall, our current academic approach will remain largely as planned: a mix of online and in-person courses

Update for students and employees

  • Region of Waterloo moves into Step 3 re-opening on Friday, July 16 
  • You can return to work on campus if you are required to in your departmental safety plan 
  • Some services and building opening times are changing 
  • You can expect to hear more on our reopening plans as public health guidance evolves

Case tracking: Two positive cases in outbreak at University of Waterloo hockey summer camp

On Tuesday, July 13, 2021, Region of Waterloo public health informed us that two individuals who attended a hockey day camp at the University of Waterloo last week have tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, officials declared the cases an outbreak of COVID-19 at the day camp.

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health have defined an outbreak as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff with an epidemiological link, within a 14-day period, where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection at the camp.

Case tracking: one community member tests positive

On Monday, July 12, Region of Waterloo public health informed us of one individual who tested positive for COVID-19 and who had visited our campus.

The individual is in self-isolation and public health are reaching out to any identified close contacts while on the campus.

If you have not been identified as a close contact of the individual, you should continue to follow our on-campus safety procedures including our campus check in screening daily, and self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and seek testing if needed.

Step 2 re-opening brings changes for campus operations

Update for students and employees

  • Region of Waterloo moves into Step 2 re-opening on Monday, July 12
  • In-person course activity will begin or expand for some courses
  • No change to research activities, further communication about research lab capacity will be forthcoming.
