Award description:
A scholarship, valued at $4,000, will be awarded annually to a full-time graduate student enrolled in a research-based master’s or doctoral program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering. Selection is based on academic excellence (e.g., minimum cumulative average of 80% or equivalent) and research in field work of river mechanics and river rehabilitation. Interested students should submit an application by the end of January to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This scholarship was established in memory of alumnus, Dr. Benjamin Plumb (BASc ’10 and PhD ’17, civil engineering), through the support of his former employer, GeoProcess Research Associates, as well as colleagues, friends and family.

Value description:
The goal is to provide one or more awards, valued at a minimum of $4,000, annually. The final award may be more or less than $4,000 based on available funds. The period of this defined term award will be from 2025 until the funds are exhausted. The first selection will be made in Winter 2025.

Eligibility & selection criteria:

  • Full-time graduate students registered in a research-based master’s or doctoral program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering
  • Selection to be based on academic excellence (e.g., minimum cumulative average of 80% or equivalent) and research in field work of river mechanics and river rehabilitation
  • Application is required by the end of January and must be submitted to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering
  • A committee within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering will select recipients normally each Winter
