Award description:
This research scholarship was originally funded through generous donations from the late Winifred Shantz followed by a generous donation from the estate of Keith Shantz (Winfred’s late husband). Each year Master of Fine Arts students who have completed a minimum of two terms of study spend at least six weeks of the summer months working as assistants in a professional artist’s studio. On completion of this experience the students devote the balance of the term to developing their work in their own studios. The Keith and Winifred Shantz International Research Scholarship will provide at least one scholarship annually with a value of at least $7,000 to cover the accommodation, living and travel expenses and tuition for that term.

Eligibility & selection criteria:
- Full-time graduate students registered in the Master of Fine Arts program in the Faculty of Arts, typically in their third term.
- University of Waterloo Department of Fine Arts will identify candidates and select recipients which will be approved by the Dean of Arts.
