Award description:
Awards, valued at a minimum of $3,375 per year, are available to support eligible graduate students registered full-time in a research-based master’s or doctoral program in the Faculty of Science. Students are automatically considered for this award throughout their eligibility period and may be nominated, without the need for an application, by their programs to the Associate Dean of Science, Graduate Studies.

Value description:

  • Domestic MSc students - $3,750/year for a maximum of two years 
  • International MSc students - $3,375/year for a maximum of two years 
  • Domestic PhD students - $6,000/year for a maximum of four years 
  • International PhD students - $3,375/year for a maximum of four years 

Eligibility & selection criteria: 

  • Must be registered full-time in a thesis-based master's or doctoral program in any department or school within the Faculty of Science. 
  • Must be within the first 6 terms of a master's program or within the first 12 terms of a doctoral program; students who transfer from a master's to a PhD after term 3.0 will have received three terms of support at the master's level and are then eligible for 12 terms of support at the doctoral level. If the transfer happens after term 4.0 of a master's program, doctoral level funding will start in the first term of registration in the doctoral program and continue for a maximum of 12 terms.
  • Nomination of students for SGA will be based on internal and external funding the student is already in receipt of or been offered as well as funding practices and objectives of the academic unit. 
  • Students will be automatically considered for this award throughout their eligibility period and, depending on departmental/school funding models, may be nominated by their programs to the Associate Dean of Science, Graduate Studies annually. Nominations will be sent to Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) for payment to the student's tuition account. 
  • Annual award will be paid out over three terms.
  • In order to continue receiving the award, students must remain registered full-time and be in good academic standing in their program.
