Award description:
Two awards valued at up to $20,000 will be provided annually to a full-time graduate student enrolled in a research-based master's program in the Faculty of Engineering. Students must be conducting research in the area of deep technology with a strong emphasis on advanced computing, with the intention of commercializing their research. Selection will be based on academic achievement (minimum cumulative average of 80% or equivalent over the last two years of full-time study) and 500-word statement on commitment to developing new products or services in advanced computing or deep technology fields. Interested students must submit an application to their Departmental Graduate Coordinator in the Faculty of Engineering. This fund is made possible by a donation from SPUR Innovation Centre to inspire innovations in computing.

Value description:
Two Awards, valued at up to $20,000 each (paid across three full-time academic terms), annually. The period of this defined term award will be from 2025 to 2026. The first selection will be made in Winter 2025 and the last in Winter 2026.

Eligibility & selection criteria:

  • Full-time graduate students registered in a research-based the Faculty of Engineering and be supervised by a faculty member in Engineering.
  • Students must be conducting research in the area of deep technology with a strong emphasis on advanced computing with the intention of commercializing their research.
  • Selection to be based on academic excellence (minimum cumulative average of 80% or equivalent over the last two years of full-time study), and a 500-word statement on commitment to developing new products or services in advanced computing or deep technology fields.
  • Interested students must submit an application to their Departmental Graduate Coordinator in the Faculty of Engineering.
  • A committee within the Faculty of Engineering Graduate Studies Office will evaluate the candidates and select recipients normally each Winter.
  • This award can be held in conjunction with any minimum funding they may already be receiving.
  • The award will be paid in equal instalments across 3 full-time academic terms; future instalments are contingent upon remaining registered in the program
  • In the event that a recipient fails to meet the renewal criteria, or completes their degree early, residual funds may be used to offer additional scholarships at the above criteria.
