CPI is excited to welcome Anindya Sen as interim Executive Director of the Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute. Sen, who was CPI's Associate Director, is assuming this role while our previous Executive Director, N. Asokan, is on sabbatical.
Anindya Sen is a professor at the Department of Economics for the University of Waterloo where he has taught since 1999. He is also currently the Director for Graduate Diploma in Computational Data Analytics for the Social Sciences & Humanities. In 2014, Professor Sen was recognized for his innovations in teaching and mentoring students with the University Award for Distinguished Teaching.
Sen’s research interests are focused on using advanced machine learning models in a variety of policy issues including the analysis of government interventions on the spread of COVID-19; the economics of data markets and privacy; understanding societal trends in trust; and misinformation in the economics of public policy with an emphasis on estimating the statistical effects of government intervention.
“I am delighted to assume the role of Acting Executive Director,” said Sen. “I look forward to working with colleagues across campus to build awareness of the impactful research being done by CPI members through strategic partnerships with government and the private sector; assisting in the development of cybersecurity and privacy courses; and creating initiatives that will allow us to improve societal literacy on important issues."
Sen endeavours to position CPI as the place for policy discussion and influence at the provincial and federal level. CPI is ecstatic to have him aboard the team and envisions a bright, productive future ahead with Sen’s expertise, extensive experience, and overall support.
Watch Sen, in a November 2023 interview, discuss using economic principles to improve data privacy, how governments are reacting to generate AI, and the potential future of privacy and security.
