The Economics department celebrated the accomplishments of its’ graduate students at a virtual celebration on Zoom held on Friday, June 26, 2020.
Following opening remarks by Department Chair, Lutz-Alexander Busch, Professor Tom Parker got the celebration off to a good start with a violin solo of the classic St. Anne’s Reel!
Four PhD students Andrés Arcila-Vasquez, Yichun Huang, Annie Pan and Renfang Tian, who all received their doctorate degrees in June, spoke along with their supervisors Ana Ferrer, Margaret Insley, and Stéphanie Lluis (respectively for Andrés, Yichun, and Annie) and Pierre Chaussé, advisory committee member for Renfang.
MA graduates included: Mahsa Ahmadvand, Gray Boyko, Davis Dolan, Ramsha Jaweed, Chulsoon Kim, Haochang Li, Ziqiu Liang, Siwei Shen, Jesse Uszkay, Feng Yin, Shun Yu, Congge Zhang, Hongcan Zhang, Keyi Zhang, Xin Zhang, Tong Zhou, Yongyun Zhou.
Chulsoon and Ramsha spoke about what it was like completing their MA Co-op degrees in Economics at Waterloo.
Liz Nilsen, Associate Dean, Graduate Studies spoke to the graduates about the journey of getting to the stage to convocate with a graduate degree.
The MA students from the 2019-2020 class also joined the celebration and let us know what they have been doing during COVID-19.

Three subject achievement awards were given out to members of this class.
