Volunteer with Economics
There are events every year when the School of Economics is represented by staff, faculty and current students to answer questions and market the program to potential incoming students and their families. Although staff and faculty can provide process and technical information, it is important that we also have a student presence to share the hands-on experience of the program and also talk about the non-academic sides of being a Waterloo Economics student.
Example Events:
- Fall Open House
- March Open House
- Arts Major Showcase
- 2A Welcome Event
If you are interested in volunteering for one of these events, please fill out this form. This list will be used when the recruitment window for the events is open.
Additional Opportunities
There are many additional ways to add to your experience at Waterloo, whether through part-time employment or with expanded academic options.
Become a Tutor
-
Students sometimes find that teaching other’s content can help with their own learning as well. You can join the tutor connect portal as a tutor and earn a bit of money while supporting other ECON students.
Data Analytics and Behavioural Insights (DABI) Certificate
- Based on feedback from faculty members, accomplished alumni and other industry professionals, the Faculty of Arts has decided to offer WatSPEED’s Data Analytics and Behavioural Insights (DABI) Certificate at no charge for Arts 2A and above students, allowing them to obtain data analytics skills that are extremely helpful in professional settings. The regular cost of the certificate is roughly $3,000. This certificate is comparable to the data analytics certificate from Google. However, the DABI certificate has been specifically constructed for learners with limited mathematical/statistical background.
Go on Exchange?
- Going on an academic exchange allows you to broaden your world view, enhance your cross-cultural understanding and communication skills, while learning to be adaptable and innovative. All of this while earning credit toward your UW degree!

The edge certificate is not open to students in a coop program. Here are some of the benefits of the program:
- Identify the skills you've developed through your academics, extracurriculars, volunteering, and paid employment and know how to communicate them when talking to employers.
- Learn important career development skills, like how to write résumés, succeed in interviews and find work that matches your values, skills and interests.
- Gain experience through work or volunteer opportunities of your choice.
- Improve soft skills like communication and teamwork through online professional development courses.
- Receive comprehensive evaluations from your supervisors and reflect on what you learn through your experiences.
- Create a plan of action for your goals after graduation.
Hourly Positions in Economics
Sometimes the School of Economics has need to hire undergraduate students for hourly roles to support them with marking and proctoring duties. There are only positions in select terms where there are not enough graduate students to cover the assignments. If you are interested in either of these roles, you can fill out this form. We offer open positions to students on this list.
