Welcome to Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Waterloo

Electrical and computer engineers shape the future through innovation.  They develop and improve systems that serve everyday needs of society spanning from high-voltage engineering and sustainable energy, to breakthroughs in wireless technology. Our faculty and students do everything from creating low-cost digital x-ray imagers to combat tuberculosis in developing countries, to building real-time embedded systems to advance the design and reliability of commercial products.  ECE - the future is what we do.

Future undergraduates

Our undergraduate program provides students with rigorous foundations in math and physics while exposing them to exciting applications early on in their program.

Future graduates

Our students come from all over the globe to experience our first-rate faculty, education, and research programs. Our graduates are among the most sought after in the world.

  1. Mar. 13, 2023Electrical and computer engineering professor, Sherman Shen, ranks as one of the Best Scientists in the field of Electronics and Electrical Engineering

    Research.com, a leading academic platform

  2. Feb. 23, 2023Paper on in-car sensors to save children highly cited

Researchers at Waterloo Engineering have been recognized for the impact of their work on sensors to help save lives by preventing children from being left alone in vehicles.

  3. Feb. 7, 2023Electrical and computer engineering MASc student, Chuan Tian (Ben) Zhang, wins third place in the 2023 GRADflix competition

On January 31, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs hosted its fifth annual GRADflix Showcase, a hybrid red-carpet event featuring the 25 best 60-second videos produced by graduate students to describe their research. Of those 25, only 4 winning videos were selected that best communicated research being carried out by UWaterloo grad students.
