Statistics Option

As described in the Undergraduate Calendar, this option requires you to take seven courses, including the four required courses ECE 316 Probability Theory and Statistics, STAT 331 Applied Linear Models, STAT 332 Sampling and Experimental Design, and STAT 435 Statistical Methods for Process Improvement. In addition to these courses, you must take three courses from a list specified in the Undergraduate Calendar. Please contact your Academic Advisor to determine which of the upper-level courses may be counted as your two allowed non-ECE Technical Electives (TEs). You should also discuss the need for prerequisites with one of the Option Coordinators.  The three Management Science MSCI 431, MSCI 432, and MSCI 452 count as technical electives.

If two of the courses are counted as TEs, this reduces the number of extra courses down to four. In order to achieve the required prerequisites, it may be necessary to take ECE 316 earlier than the usual (in 3A; see the Core Course Rescheduling Form). ECE 316 is currently offered in Winter and Spring; consequently, a Stream 4S student could take ECE 316 in 2B while a Stream 8 student could take ECE 316 during a Co-op Work Term (with the permission and approval of the student's employer). In place of ECE 316 course, the student must agree to take a statistics course in 3A. Please note that ECE 316 replaces STAT 231 as a requirement, however, there are some topics not covered in ECE 316 which are needed in STAT 331 and STAT 332. You will have to familiarize yourself these topics on your own time.

Please talk to one of the Option Co-ordinators or see the Calendar Description.
