Medical startup NERv wins $500K in global contest
A medical technology startup co-founded by two Waterloo Engineering students topped more than 100,000 applicants to take first place and the $500,000 USD prize in an international competition staged in Saudi Arabia.
NERv Technology, which is based at the Velocity Garage in downtown Kitchener, won the Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) following a startup boot camp and several rounds of competition in Riyadh.

Electrical and computer engineering professors, Werner Dietl and Lan Wei, are recipients of Early Researcher Awards (ERA). The Early Researcher Awards program recognizes promising new researchers with $140,000 each to build a research team.

ECE Professor, Sherman Shen, has received the Federation of Chinese Canadian Professionals (Ontario) Education Foundation (FFCP) 2019 Award of Merit. The FCCP (Ont) Education Foundation gives out an Award of Merit annually to recognise distinguished Chinese Canadians with outstanding achievements in their own fields. Shen will be honoured in Toronto later this year.
An electrical and computer engineering professor at the University of Waterloo has been awarded $1.65 million under a federal program designed to train Canada's researchers of tomorrow.
