SERS is pleased to celebrate our students who were selected for annual awards this spring.
Distinguished academic achievement award
Sharah Gallego Meneses was recognized with the distinguished academic achievement award as the top graduating undergraduate student in SERS. Honourable mentions went to Katana Cameron and Care Rumer.
Sharah provided some insights into what's next for her and what she will miss about Waterloo.
What is next for you?
I'm thrilled to share that I've embarked on an exciting journey as an Energy and Sustainability consultant for a firm based in Calgary, Alberta. My focus is on propelling the renewable energy sector and advocating for sustainable practices across Canada. Through collaboration with industry leaders and stakeholders from coast to coast. Specifically, I aim to create and implement innovative solutions that will lead to a more resilient and environmentally conscious world. In my role as a consultant and advocate at UWaterloo, I hope to contribute to the nationwide transition toward a greener, more sustainable future.
What will you miss about your time at Waterloo?
Academically, one of the aspects I will miss the most is the engaging field courses organized by the Faculty of Environment, where I had the opportunity to explore Canada's biodiversity in breathtaking locations. On a social level, I will miss the dynamic club scene and the invaluable opportunities to immerse myself in diverse cultures through student-led events and festivals. It is these extraordinary experiences that made my time at UWaterloo truly unforgettable.
Good citizen award
The SERS Good Citizen Award recognizes an undergraduate student and graduate student for their support of the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability. The award is open to any current SERS undergraduate and graduate student. This year's recipients are:
Ishani Dasgupta
Ishani Dasgupta (undergraduate recipient) played a central student leadership role in SERS for the past two years and more. She has advocated for SERS and she has been instrumental in leading conversations about the SERS curriculum that were important in the context of the School's seven-year academic review.
Kyle Schang
Kyle Schang (graduate recipient) has been active for the past three to four years in a number of different capacities in SERS. Kyle has served as a graduate student representative at School meetings for a number of years and he has volunteered for countless service requests to meet with new MES and PhD graduate students as part of the milestone events and course panel discussions. Many SERS faculty routinely go to Kyle when needing a guest lecture or classroom visit.
