Student Allison Turner receives Fulbright Award

Allison Turner a student in The Faculty of Environment's department of Environment and Resource Studies has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Canada student grant to pursue her Master’s degree at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, during the 2015-2016 academic year. Her project is entitled “Rethinking Water Governance: A New Approach for the Great Lakes”.

As an undergraduate, Allison was active on Purdue University's campus, working at the Office of University Sustainability and serving as a student leader in multiple student organizations. She was awarded the Udall Scholarship, a prestigious award for American undergraduates committed to careers in the environment, in 2013 and 2014. Purdue also recognized her achievements when she received the France A Córdova Award for Leadership in Action and the Outstanding Senior award for both of her degrees. Upon completion of her graduate degree, she hopes to work for the United States government to help solve water issues in the Midwest. While at the University of Waterloo, Allison will be studying a systemic approach to water governance and research in the Great Lakes region.

Fulbright is a world-renowned program of highly competitive, merit-based grants and scholarships for academic exchange. The program, founded in 1946 by United States Senator J. William Fulbright, has supported some 325,000 students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists. The Fulbright Program, which operates in some 155 countries and is one of the world’s most prestigious academic honours, is specifically aimed at promoting mutual understanding and supporting excellence.

Fulbright Canada is sponsored by the United States Department of State and the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development. It is a bi-national, treaty-based, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization, governed by an independent board of directors, charged with identifying and supporting the very best and brightest in Canada and the United States.
