Connect with others while you are at Waterloo for your graduate training. There are a number of resources that facilitate the creation of inclusive graduate student communities.

Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) Events

GSPA hosts programming and events that bring our graduate community together to showcase the amazing research of our graduate students and support graduate student professional skills development.

Departmental Graduate Student Associations

Recognized by the Graduate Student Association-University of Waterloo, Departmental GSA’s often organize and promote social events for graduate students within individual departments.

Graduate Student Association-University of Waterloo (GSA-UW)

The Graduate Student Association-University of Waterloo (GSA-UW) is a student-run not-for-profit and the official representation of graduate students at Waterloo. The GSA-UW hosts a number of social events and provide graduate students with academic support, mental and physical health supports, legal aid, as well as advocacy and representation.

BIPOC Student Collective

The GSA-UW runs the BIPOC Student Collective, a virtual space that aims to centre the academic and social experiences and needs of Black, Indigenous, People of Colour Graduate students. This is a safe space that facilitates peer-to-peer support, mentorship between faculty and students, and professional and academic development. 

F*ck Perfect

F*ck Perfect (FP) is a community-building, artist-facilitated workshop offered to empower participants to speak back to the pressure to be perfect through multidisciplinary artistic exercises and to build creative confidence in the service of the community we create together. 

Queer and Trans Graduate Students Wellness (QTWELL)

QTWELL is an open, drop-in group where any graduate student who is a sexual and gender minority or identifies as part of the 2SLGBTQ+ communities may drop in for good conversation and support to promote student wellness.

Grad Circle Drop In

Hosted weekly through Counselling Services, Grad Circle Drop ins offer a safe, confidential space for all graduate students to talk about the stressors in graduate school and life, emotions (including problems with anxiety and depression), and relationships. This group can be attended on a drop-in basis, attendance at each session is not required.

Counselling Services

Counselling Services is a team of professionals that provides programming and services to help you lead a healthy and balanced life. Counselling Services strives to provide a secure, supportive environment for students of all orientations and backgrounds.

Campus wellness

Campus wellness provides information on a variety of physical, mental and emotional wellness matters relevant for graduate students. They maintain pages on wellness topics and information, as well as mental health, including advice and resources on self-care, imposter phenomenon, and resilience.
