On Thursday, June 6 the GRADtalks: Feeding the Future event was held in the Board and Senate Room. Jeff Casello, associate vice-president, GSPA gave the opening remarks, followed by comments from Sandra Banks, vice-president, University Relations, and finally Rhona Hanning, professor and associate dean, graduate studies, Applied Health Sciences.
Lucy Hinton, PhD Candidate, Global Governance, Faculty of Environment was the first speaker. Her research explores conflicting interests in governance forums where guidance for good food and nutrition policies in the Global South are made.
George Health, PhD Candidate, Biology, Faculty of Science was the second speaker. His research explores methods to improve aquaculture by selecting for disease resistant Atlantic salmon in the face of warming coastal waters.
The talks were followed by a question and answer period, then People' Choice voting for the November 28 GRADtalks topic. The winning topic was "The Future of Healing". Wine and cheese followed the voting, and many guests stayed to enjoy conversations. The next GRADtalks event is on Thursday, September 26 and the topic is "The Role of the University on the Modern World". Stay tuned for more details!

The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within the Office of Indigenous Relations.
