Canada Day: Fireworks only at Columbia Lake

The following memo was posted to the campus community by Sandra Banks, vice-president, Univeristy Relations on June 26, 2019:

As you make plans for Canada Day, we hope you consider joining us at Columbia Lake Field as the University of Waterloo lights the sky with fireworks for the last time.

This year is a fireworks-only event, with the show beginning at 10 p.m., weather permitting. Unlike in previous years, there will be no musical performances, food vendors or other activities at the event.

Kimia lab invites applicants for several postdoctoral positions to work in a medical image analysis project. You will work in a well-funded and prestigious project at the University of Waterloo with collaborations with the Vector Institute. Five University of Waterloo doctoral students headed to Lake Shift

Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs is pleased to be sending five doctoral students to Lake Opinicon for the 2019 Lake Shift writing retreat. Congratulations to Jennifer Kandjii, Maša Torbica, Sagar Patel, Shefaza Esmail and Stephanie Barr, who will be spending July 15-19, 2019 at the Queen’s Biology Station on Lake Opinicon. While at Lake Opinicon, these students will have dedicated and structured time to write, partake in workshops on effective dissertation writing, and network with doctoral students from other Ontario universities.

Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision winners named

This week, University of Waterloo's 118 convocation takes place, with more than 6000 students claiming their degrees, diplomas and certificates, including 1289 graduate students.  Convocation is also a special time for the university to celebrate distinguished students and faculty - including those who have done an exemplary job of supervising graduate students.
