A focus on sustainable energy conversion and chemical production processes
XiaoYu Wu is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. He obtained his PhD at MIT, and his MS and BS degrees in Zhejiang University. He is enthusiastic about sustainability, especially how clean technologies can impact sustainability and how developing countries can incorporate sustainability in the development.
Laetitia Uwineza is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. She obtained her Ph.D. in Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of Science and Technology in February 2023.
Zhongyi Liu is a Postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, his MS degree from Boston University, and his BEng degree from Jilin University. His research expertise lies in electrochemistry and the development of next-generation energy storage systems. He joined the research group in 2025.
Jinhe Zhang is a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his MS and BS degrees in Dalian University of Technology. Jinhe joined our research group in Spring 2022.
Pengcheng Zhao is currently a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his BASc Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba, and MASc in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He joined the research group as a Master’s student in the Winter of 2023, working on electrochemical cells for ammonia conversion.
Aamer Akhand is a PhD student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his BASc. in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2023. His interests lie in mathematics and green accessible technology for all. He joined the research group in Spring of 2023.
John Loncar is a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. John is also a licensed Professional Engineer with over 25 years of diverse industry experience. John joined the research group in Fall of 2024
Yifan Zhang is a PhD student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He joined the research group in Fall 2025, co-supervised by Dr. Yverick Rangom in Chemical Engineering.
Benjamin Gonzalez is a MASc. student in Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his BEng in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Guelph in 2024. He joined the Greener Production Group in the Fall of 2024. He is interested in sustainable forms of energy storage.
Ananthu Shibu Nair is a MASc. student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his BASc. in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Waterloo in 2024. He joined the research group as a Master’s student in the Fall of 2024. Presently, his research focuses upon testing and validation of Lithium-ion batteries.He is co-supervised with Professor Michael Fowler in Chemical Engineering.
Hanieh is a Master of Applied Science (MASc) student in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, beginning in Spring 2025. She completed her undergraduate studies at SRBAU. Her research focuses on the thermal management of battery packs in electric vehicles. She is co-supervised by Dr. Yverick Rangom in Chemical Engineering.
Jonathan Mitchell is a MASc student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. He obtained his BSc in Mechanical Engineering in Colombia and holds a specialization in Project Management. His current research interests focus on techno-economic feasibility studies of diverse energy conversion technologies.
Yu-Jung Wang is a MASc student in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo. She obtained her BSc in Engineering and System Science at National Tsing Hua University in December 2024. Yu-Jung joined the group in September 2025.
Ahmad is a MASc student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Ahmad completed his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Carleton University in Spring of 2025, shortly before joining our research team in Fall of 2025.
Tatsuma Yamauchi is a MASc student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His current research interests focus on the development of novel catalysts for green energy conversion devices. He joined the Greener Production Group in the Fall of 2025, co-supervised by Dr. John Wen.
