Contaminant Hydrogeology Research Laboratory

This facility is a fully serviced research laboratory utilized for advancing understanding of the fate, transport and remediation of inorganic and organic contaminants in groundwater. This research includes detailed laboratory studies to predict the complex geochemical behavior of these systems and development of remedial methods.

Meters and instruments for measurement of water-quality parameters

  • Meters capable of measuring pH, Eh, EC, DO, alkalinity, temperature
  • Portable UV/Visible Spectrophotometers

Sample preparation facilities

  • Coy® Vinyl Anaerobic Chamber, automated interchange, hydrogen/oxygen detector
  • Two fully operational fume hoods, outfitted with sinks and gas valves, used for short-term sample preparation
  • Centrifuge, maximum speed: 6000 rmp, sample volume: <1 mL to 40 mL
  • Precision balances, maximum mass 420 g and 6,200 g
  • Automated diluter, syringes range from 10 µL to 50 mL
  • -20 ºC chest freezers used for storage and archiving of samples and materials
