About Centre for Groundwater Research

The Waterloo Centre for Groundwater Research is part of the University of Waterloo and focussed primarily through the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

Institutional purpose

The Waterloo Centre for Groundwater Research is intended to provide an organizational structure to promote independent and collaborative research opportunities for researchers and partners in all areas of hydrogeology; facilitate access to information through publications and training; enhance educational and employment opportunities for students; and provide a base for the continued development of groundwater-related research at the University of Waterloo.

What we do

The Waterloo Centre for Groundwater Research is composed of a group of research scientists at the University of Waterloo who have interests in a wide variety of topics related to hydrogeology. General areas of research activity include:

  • Groundwater resources management
  • Contaminant hydrogeology
  • Environmental geochemistry
  • Numerical modelling
  • Isotope hydrology
  • Environmental geophysics
  • Field and laboratory experimentation
  • Ecological hydrology

Several laboratory facilities are associated with WCGR including:
