Rob Gorbet Co-Leads the Shadows and Whispers Workshop at Domaine de Boisbuchet in France

In August, Knowledge Integration professor Dr. Rob Gorbet co-led the Shadows and Whispers 2024 workshop at Domaine de Boisbuchet, an international design and architecture research center in France. Alongside the team at Gorbet Design and visual artist, architect, and professor Philip Beesley, Rob led fourteen designers and professionals from around the world on a creative journey to connect natural sound, light, and movement using technology.

To do this, each participant was given a kit of geometric connection parts, kinetic devices, sound recorders, and lights to experiment with. At the culmination of the week, these individual explorations came together into a collective installation and performance. The kits used were prototypes for a STEAM education project, marking the first real-world testing of the devices.

Reflecting on his experience, Rob shared, “It was such a privilege to be teaching in the amazing Boisbuchet space again, and to share these new STEAM kit components for the first time with an amazing group of designers and creative folks. We were blown away by what they did with them, and very excited for the next iteration of that kit to get into the hands of students!”
