Marian Davies has been with the Library for 30 years; she has worked in various roles from co-ordinator to associate, and she now holds the position of Liaison Librarian for Environment, Geography, and Planning.
In her new Liaison Librarian position, Marian will be responsible for developing collections in order to ensure the faculty’s research and teaching needs are met. She will also be providing library instruction for students and helping both students and faculty to get the most out of library services. She also will work with the staff on many collaborative projects to improve the library resources, something that Marian very much looks forward to, “One of my greatest pleasures is working with library staff. I always look forward to that part.”
Marian not only brings experience into her new role, she also has a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo, a Master of Information Studies from the University of Toronto in Library and Information Science, and is currently working on a Master of Philosophy from Waterloo.
In addition to this role at the Library, Marian is active in other parts of the University as well. She belongs to several committees such as Beyond the Desk Working Group, Usability Protocol Group, and Status of Women & Equity Committee (SWEC).
With this active involvement in the Library and school, Marian is quite busy, but she greatly enjoys her work.
I enjoy collection development the most. This is a fascinating area, both in terms of subject expertise and with the variety of electronic platforms available. Instructing students and faculty on how to use the library’s resources is a real treat. I love connecting the dots between an idea and the appropriate resource.
Welcome to your new position, Marian!
