Special Collections & Archives recently acquired a few nifty upgrades to their scanners with the help of the Graduate Studies Endowment Fund (GSEF)! These scanners are available not only for graduate student use, but for everyone using Special Collections.
The Espon Expression 11000XL flatbed scanner is an entirely new addition to Special Collections. A large 11”x18” scanning area and high-resolution scanning make this scanner perfect for oversize items or for anything that can’t afford a drop in fidelity, such as photographs or maps.
GSEF also outfitted the existing Book2Net scanner with a solid state hard drive and a few software upgrades:
- the scanner can now recognize scanned text
- the low-light emission helps preserve the vulnerable archival documents
These generous upgrades were made possible with the Library's 2013 partnership with GSEF. GSEF is an endowment with the goal of "funding an on-going commitment to enhance the learning, research, and overall experience of graduate students at the University." GSEF's previous contributions to the Library include granting the ScanPro 2000 microfilm scanner to Special Collections.
