Tuesday, May 2, 2017

It's another busy year for recruiting - say hello to the Library's newest staff members:

Lauren

Lauren Byl

Copyright and licensing librarian, Collection development

Lauren became copyright and licensing librarian permanently on March 27, but has been in the role on contract since 2015. She has a Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Arts (Sociology) from McMaster University, and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Western University. Lauren provides assistance with copyright questions to faculty, staff and students, and keeps the license database up to date. She says she loves "helping students, staff, and faculty with their copyright questions; they are all so unique!" Outside of work, Lauren enjoys baking, knitting and rollerblading.

Farzaneh Keramati

eResources access associate, Collection development

Farzaneh has been on contract with the Library in circulation and collection development since November 2008. She began her current position as eResources access associate in January 2017. She has a Bachelor of Library Information Science, and says "I am very excited to deal with e-resources access issues; both resolving and preventing them.  Outside of work, I enjoy running, dancing, cooking, travelling and spending time with my family and friends."

Adam

Adam Savage

Head, Library technology and facilities services

Adam started his position as head of Library technology and facilities services (LTFS) on May 1, 2017, but he has been the Library’s system administrator in LTFS since 2013. Adam grew up around computers, as they were the family business. When asked what he enjoys about his role, Adam said "I enjoy the ever-changing landscape of IT and Library space. There’s always something new around the corner and opportunities to improve." Adam describes himself as a bit of a sports fanatic; "I play in several leagues, including volleyball, baseball and soccer. During the summers I golf as much as possible, and switch to indoor rock-climbing in the winter."

Nick Springate

Systems administrator, Library technology and facilities services (LTFS)

Nick started on May 16, 2017, bringing 12 years of experience to his role of managing and maintaining computer and storage infrastructure. He holds two diplomas from Humber College: Computer programming and Computer and network support. He says staff have been very welcoming and supportive; "I love how everyone is open to learning and sharing new things. It’s a great environment to be in." Nick loves playing hockey, volleyball and the odd video game. He also enjoys woodworking, and built a wet bar over the winter. "I lived in Kelowna, BC for 5 years, where I met my wife - it's a beautiful place to live and explore the outdoors and wineries!"
