UWSpace copyright review and deposit service

Would you like to make your publications Open Access? The Library has launched a new service to assist you to determine your copyrights and to deposit your born digital or digitized publications into UWSpace, Waterloo’s institutional repository.

To participate fill out the form and provide us with:

  1. Your preferred publication or list of publications. Examples: CV, a link to your Google Scholar profile.

  2. Your commitment to provide the Library with the publisher's required article version for deposit (typically the accepted manuscript version) on your behalf or your commitment to make the deposit yourself.

Please note that we may not be able to deposit all works if the accepted manuscript version is not available, as publishers often place restrictions on the version of record (the typeset, copy-edited version of the peer-reviewed manuscript). We prioritize the deposit of articles resulting from funded research, where the funding body requires that publications be made open access within a certain period of time. In Canada, articles resulting from research funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) after May 1, 2015 are subject to the Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications. For research funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the policy took effect on January 1, 2008.

Why hasn't my article been deposited yet?

We do our best to deposit the appropriate versions of research articles to UWSpace as soon as possible, as we are a small team serving the whole campus. Please feel free to check in with us about the status of your deposit. Note that we can't deposit "online first" or "early access" articles until they have been assigned to an issue and have a complete citation.

Eligibility for Students

  • Theses and assigned research projects will not be accepted or reviewed through this service. Please use the Deposit your Electronic Thesis guide instead.
  • Scholarly works that are not part of a graduating requirement, or an assigned project, are eligible and encouraged.

Contact us if you have questions about our service or if you are interested in depositing non-published research outputs into UWSpace.
