Deposit your electronic thesis

Waterloo requires graduate students to deposit an electronic copy of their thesis into UWSpace. The following instructions are a step-by-step guide for successfully depositing your thesis.

Before submitting your thesis:

  1. Your Department or Faculty must provide Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) with a "Thesis Acceptance" form.  This paperwork is required before your thesis can be reviewed on UWSpace.

  2. Consult the Graduate Studies Office Thesis webpage to ensure that your thesis meets organization and formatting requirements. 

  3. Make an accessible copy of your thesis following the University’s recommended instructions for formatting your work as a PDF/UA. Otherwise use the Creating a PDF version Instructions to create a PDF/A version. If your ETD includes supplementary files consult the Procedures for submitting an enhanced thesis instructions.
  4. Rename your thesis using this naming convention: YourLastName_YourFirstName.pdf.

  5. Submit an approved Request to Restrict Circulation of Thesis form to the GSO if you need to restrict access to your thesis (embargo) for longer than four months.

  6. Review the UWSpace Non-Exclusive Distribution License that you must accept to complete your deposit.
