Yinqiu (Peyton) Shi

Former Research Associate

Yinqiu (Peyton) Shi is a research associate in the QNC-MBE Lab and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Theology (Spiritual Care and Psychotherapy) at Martin Luther University College. She earned her PhD in Physics (Nanotechnology) under the supervision of Professor Zbig Wasilewski in 2021 and completed her BSc (Hons) in Physics at the University of Toronto in 2014.

Joseph P Thomas

PhD, Former MBE Facility Manager

Joseph Thomas served as Manager of the QNC-MBE Facility until November 2017. He is currently a Technical Support Specialist and Staff Scientist at the Waterloo Advanced Technology Lab (WATLab), University of Waterloo.

Denise Gosselink

PhD, Former MBE Facility Manager

Denise Gosselink had been the manager for the Molecular Beam Epitaxy facility until August 2016. Presently she is the Bruce B Chemistry and Environment Department Manager at the Bruce Power, the world's largest nuclear power plant.

Wojciech Julian Pasek

Former Postdoctoral Fellow

Wojciech Pasek was a postdoctoral fellow in the QNC-MBE group from November 2018 to January 2020, where he developed a theory for multi-subband plasmon formation in non-parabolic conduction bands using k·p calculations. He is now a faculty member at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University.

Ho Sung Kim

Former Postdoctoral Fellow
Ho Sung Kim is a Staff Engineer at Samsung Electronics in South Korea. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the QNC-MBE Group from April 2018 to February 2020, focusing on molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) growth and fabrication of GaAs/AlGaAs structures for lateral gated p–n junctions, enabling single-electron injectors and high-fluency quantum light emission.

Chris Deimert

Alumni, Former PhD Student

Chris Deimert is a Research Officer at the National Research Council in Ottawa, Canada, and was previously a Research Associate there. Chris earned his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering (Nanotechnology) under Professor Zbig Wasilewski's supervision in 2021.

Milad Entezami

Alumni, Former PhD Student

Milad joined the QNC-MBE research team in February 2022 as an Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) PhD student to explore the development of innovative THz photoconductive antennas, particularly for sensing, spectroscopy, and communication applications. Since graduating in 2025, he has been advancing technology as a Quantum Microwave Design Engineer.

Seyed Ali Hosseini Farahabadi

Alumni, Former PhD Student

Seyed-Ali joined the QNC-MBE research team in February 2022, where he focused on developing high-performance Sub-THz and THz sources for applications in communications, imaging, sensing, and spectroscopy. He graduated in 2025 and is currently an RF Photonics Design Engineer at AttoTude in Waterloo, Canada.

Ida Sadeghi

Alumni, Former PhD Student

Ida Sadeghi is a Staff Scientist at the Research Cores at Yale University, USA, and previously served as a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She earned her PhD degree in Electrical Engineering (Nanotechnology) under Professor Zbig Wasilewski's supervision in 2021.

Bohdan Khromets

Alumni, Former MSc Student

Bohdan Khromets is a PhD candidate in quantum physics at the University of Waterloo, beginning his doctoral studies in 2023. He earned his BSc with Honours in Applied Physics from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, and completed his MSc in Physics (Quantum Information) under Professor Zbig Wasilewski in 2022.

Yunong (Anthony) Hu

Yunong (Anthony) Hu currently works in the electronics industry in China. He earned his MSc in Physics (Nanotechnology) under the supervision of Professor Zbig Wasilewski in 2018 and was a member of the QNC-MBE research team from September 2016, following his BSc in Physics from the University of Waterloo.

Julie Tournet

Alumni, Former MASc Student

Julie Tournet is a Senior Lecturer/Researcher and R&D Manager at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia. She earned her MASc in Electrical Engineering (Nanotechnology) under the supervision of Professor Zbig Wasilewski in 2015 and was the first student of the QNC-MBE Lab. She completed her BSc in Physics and Engineering in Europe, studying in Paris, Brest, and Barcelona.

Xueren (Jacky) Wang

Alumni, Former MASc Student

Jacky Wang works in the electronics industry in China. He graduated in 2015 with an MASc in Electrical Engineering under the supervision of Professor Zbig Wasilewski. Jacky joined the QNC-MBE team in 2013 as an exchange student from Soochow University.

Marc Jaikissoon

Alumni, Former Research Assistant

Marc Jaikissoon is a Research Engineer at Intel Corporation in Hillsboro, Oregon, USA. He worked in the QNC-MBE Group as a Co-op Student from September to December 2015 and later as a Research Assistant/Facility Technician from January to July 2018. During his time in the group, Marc focused on molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) deposition and characterization of aluminum layers for superconducting resonators and qubits. He also developed a technique for cleaning MBE III-V deposits off molybdenum holders without attacking Mo itself.
