Lunchtime seminar with Eric Boyton

Peace and Conflict Studies graduate Eric Boyton will be coming to Conrad Grebel to do a lunchtime talk with interested students. He is currently pursuing a career in policing and will be offering insights on how PACS has been useful to him in this field.

This will be an event joint with Legal Studies and a great chance to network with other students as well as learn about the ways that PACS can be used in the workplace beyond university.

Thursday talks with Mark Yantzi

Mark Yantzi is a mediator working with Correctional Services Canada. He is also the former Executive Director of Community Justice Initiatives.

Mark will reflect on the promises and limitations of restorative justice in relation to the traditional justice system. The title of his talk is "(REGINA vs. John Doe) versus (John Doe meets Restorative Justice)." 

This talk is open to both graduate and undergraduate students from the MPACS and PACS programs.

Masters of Peace and Conflict Studies info session

Peace and Conflict Studies will be holding an information session for students interested in doing their Master's in Peace and Conflict Studies (MPACS) here at Conrad Grebel. There will be a pizza dinner provided, a brief overview of the program by Rebecca Steinmann, Graduate Studies Coordinator, reflections by three current MPACS students, Rachel Reist, Kelly Brown and Patty Dorsey, and time for Q&A . The deadline for applying to the MPACS program is February 1st, so this is the time to start thinking about it!

Peace Now: presentation and discussion concerning the crisis in Syria

Bruce Guenther, Director of Disaster Response for Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) - Canada, and a Syrian activist skyping in from Homs, Syria, will be speaking about the conflict and relief efforts.

Hosted by the Peace and Conflict Studies Society, this will be a night full of live music, poetry, art and food. A number of live artist and poets will perform, and artwork from several University of Waterloo students will be up for silent auction. All proceeds will go towards one of five local charities, as voted on by attendees with the purchase of their ticket. Tickets are on sale prior to the 9th for $5, and will be sold for $7 at the door.
