From trauma to healing: The Syrian refugee crisis

Dawn Penner, a specialist in psychology/counseling and war trauma recovery, will speak about her time in Lebanon with Mennonite Central Committee. Over the course of three months, she trained Syrian and Palestinian refugees in trauma healing as a response to violence experienced in the Syrian conflict. A time for discussion and refreshments will follow the talk. Admission is free, with food and drinks provided. Donations are welcome.

John Paul LederachJohn Paul Lederach, widely known for his work on conflict transformation, will speak on his latest work, which reflects on compassion. He will explore the question: how do you accompany, alleviate suffering and create space for the creative emergence of the person again after tremendous loss?

She relentlessly fought nationalist fanaticism, aggressive militarism, anti-Semitism and recognized the dangers of hate breeding.

Artist Talk "On the Land" by Bangishimo 

Location: Outdoor pathway beside Grebel’s Great Hall.

Bangishimo is an IndigiQueer Anishinaabe photographer originally from Couchiching First Nations. They are a community organizer for Idle No More and co-founder of O:se Kenhionhata:tie, also known as Land Back Camp.

Bangishimo will be sharing their journey into the world of photography, how they created "On the Land" and some of the projects they are currently working on.

On the Land is a portrait series that answers the question “What does it mean or what has it meant to live on this Indigenous territory?” In this pandemic era, many of us are trying to find a place where we feel safe and belong. Now is the time to reflect and ask yourself this question.
