Artistic Leadership in Turbulent Times
On Thursday, October 20, 10am, the Associate Chair of the UWaterloo's Theatre and Performance Program, Andy Houston hosts a discussion with the Stratford Festival's Artistic Director, Antoni Cimolino.
Professor Houston is interested in exploring the process of Cimolino’s evolution to the roles of director and artistic director; also, what he believes the future of directing looks like in Canada, especially concerning young and up-and-coming theatre professionals. He also wants to discuss the topic of leadership during a time when the representation of marginalized groups is becoming more valued and sought after.
All students, staff, and members of the public are welcome. This talk takes place in the Theatre of the Arts (located in the Modern Languages building). There will be 30 minutes of discussion between our presenters and then an open discussion with the audience, with a reception with refreshments in the ML Gallery.

Restoring a Strained Global Security Architecture Policy Conference

Volunteer: Food Access at the Working Centre St. John's Kitchen
November 11, 8:30 am.
Join in a community service learning day with the Working Centre St. John’s Kitchen! The Working Centre is an extensive non-profit in KW with a wide range of projects seeking to respond to unemployment and poverty in downtown Kitchener.
We will gather at SJU in the morning (8:30am) to take the ION together to downtown Kitchener. We will participate in portioning out meals and distributing them to people who are experiencing homelessness, risk of homelessness, or street involved. There will also be time to reflect on the experience together.

Hiring: MCC Peacebuilding Coordinator
MCC's Planning, Learning, and Disaster Response (PLDR) department is looking for a second Peacebuilding Coordinator. Location is Akron or Winnipeg preferred, with hybrid and remote options in Canada and the U.S. possible.
This position is one of two positions which work collaboratively together. The peacebuilding coordinators resource and support MCC staff and partners globally in the development of MCC’s peacebuilding program by supporting project development, reviewing proposals and reports, providing training in planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting (PMER), as well as assisting with monitoring and evaluation for best practices in peacebuilding programming. Review and approve all peacebuilding projects. Provide platform (coordinating/convening) for linkages throughout all MCC program in the peacebuilding sector. Lead research into MCC’s peacebuilding work in order to capture and share learnings and to strengthen these efforts. Provide information and a strong connection to Communications and Donor Relations for support of peacebuilding programs.

Community Justice Initiatives: Agency Orientation
Have you taken a course that mentions Restorative Justice? Interested in volunteering? Community Justice Initiative's Agency Orientation is the first step toward becoming a volunteer.
October 24th, at 7pm to 8pm, CJI is hosting a virtual training event. In this orientation, participants will learn about the history of CJI, as well as how they continue to evolve and expand the programs/services they offer. They will share the pre-requisite training required for each program area, as well as current and emerging volunteer openings.

PACS 390: Internship Course
The PACS internship allows you to engage in experiential learning with an organization that works on peace and conflict issues, in either a Canadian or international context. The course integrates theory and practice while facilitating the development of attitudes, strategies, skills, and knowledge that support work in a Peace and Conflict Studies related setting. If you are thinking about taking PACS 390 in the winter 2023, please reach out to the PACS Undergraduate Academic Advisor for more information.

Asynchronous Workshops
The Writing and Communication Centre offers workshops on a variety of communication-related topics throughout the term. Developed and presented by our writing and communication advisors, they are designed to help students engage with a particular topic through participation and practice. Like all of our services, workshops are free for University of Waterloo students and postdocs.
