Planning Students Participate in Campus Plan Walking Tour and Design Charette
The University of Waterloo is in the early stages of developing a new Campus Plan. As part of the consultation process, Dr. Katherine Perrott and students from the School of Planning welcomed consultants from Brook McIlroy for a student-led walking tour, followed by a design charette focused on outdoor learning spaces.
With assistance from the University of Waterloo Planning Students’ Association (PSA), students created site concepts for outdoor learning spaces using a variety of creative mediums. Five interactive stations were set up around the design studio, including:
- DRAW IT – where students illustrated a site concept in plain view or at eye level
- MODEL IT – where students built a model of a site concept using mixed media
- BUILD IT – where students designed a site concept using LEGO
- GENERATE IT – where students used AI to generate a site concept
- COLLAGE IT – where students cut out images from magazines/newspapers to create a site concept
Wrap-up reflections highlighting the key ideas and common themes were presented at the conclusion of the design charette. For more details, visit Dr. Katherine Perrott’s post on LinkedIn.
