challenges,
such
as
not
being
able
to
find
work.
On
Tuesday
July
26,
Dr.
Jennifer
Dean,
Associate
Professor
in
the
School
of
Planning,
was
featured
in
a
brief
clip
on
CTV
news,
and
says
this
is
common
for
newcomers
due
to
lack
of
recognition
of
foreign
credentials.
She
mentions
that
Canadian
businesses
prefer
experiences
in
the
workforce
in
Canada
and
this
of
course,
is
a
challenge
for
newcomers
to
the
country
who
do
not
have
this
experience.
Dr.
Dean’s
research
explores
the
links
between
human
mobility
and
well-being
in
place,
including
the
health
of
immigrants
settling
in
Canadian
communities.
Dr.
Dean’s
work
has
previously
explored
the
health
impacts
of
precarious
employment
among
highly
skilled
newcomers;
employment
as
a
determinant
of
settlement
and
mobility;
and
place-based
policies
to
attract
and
retain
newcomers
for
community
well-being.
She
is
currently
the
Principal
Investigator
of
a
SSHRC-funded
research
grant
entitled:
Immigrant
settlement
in
second
and
third-tier
communities:
Exploring
access
to
the
social
determinants
of
health
and
is
Co-Editor
of
a
special
issue
in
the
journal
of
Wellbeing,
Space
&
Society
on
Migration,
Settlement
and
Well-Being
in
and
of
Place.
