Research Talks is the Office of the Vice-President, Research and International’s signature knowledge mobilization series. The series brings together University of Waterloo researchers and local experts to discuss timely issues that matter to the community. Each event opens with brief speaker presentations, followed by a panel discussion and audience questions.
The event venue changes each time to make sure that we reach every part of Waterloo Region and to keep things fresh. When possible, the venues are located near public transportation and are always fully wheelchair accessible. The events are generally well attended and often spark lively discussions. Importantly, they offer an opportunity for researchers to directly engage with the public to demonstrate the impact of Waterloo research on people’s everyday lives and to receive valuable feedback on how their research is resonating beyond campus.
This year, there are two events planned. The first will examine the water crisis in Waterloo Region and look at how the community can co-create evidence-based solutions. The second event, which is currently under development, will feature two researchers who have recently left the United States due to the political climate.
