Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) – Tailings Clay Challenge

Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA)

Program:

Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA) – Tailings Clay Challenge

Type:

Innovation Challenge

Program deadline:

Ongoing Program

Research focus areas:

COSIA is looking for leading-edge technologies from innovators to explore the bulk and surface attributes of oil sands clay minerals to effect a beneficial behavioural change in oil sand tailings. Modifications to the clay could take several forms, and the solution should improve understanding of the clay properties and behaviours.

Examples include improving reclamation timelines, sequester constituents of concern, or facilitate biological treatment processes (accelerate consolidation, increase CO2 consumption, produce beneficial organic by-products).

For further information please review the Challenge Document, Related Links and Program Website.

Program submission instructions:

If you have an idea for this innovation opportunity, please follow the process below:

  1. Notify the Office of Research of intention to apply.
  2. Review the Challenge Document and the Related Links and Program Website for more information.
  3. Evaluate if your research idea, solution or technology could be applied as a passive organic treatment solution.
  4. Submit your idea through COSIA’s Environmental Technology Assessment Portal (E-TAP). This step requires filling out a simple form to provide them with basic, non-confidential information.

Submissions will be viewed by all COSIA members. If even just one COSIA member is interested in the idea, commercial discussions will begin.
