October 2025 Collaborative and Connected Research Panel

As part of the University of Waterloo’s Collaborative and Connected Research Panel Series, the October panel event highlights the development of sustainable research collaborations and interconnections occurring within and beyond departments. The panelists consist of current and former department chairs. They will discuss the various ways in which collaborative perspectives and synergies rely on a diverse array of participants to enhance innovation, knowledge, and networks, shape current research and teaching endeavours, and help to solve complex world problems.  This panel is hosted by the Office of the Vice-President, Research and International and the Faculty of Science.

About the panelists:

Dr. Andrea Edginton

Dr. Andrea Edginton is a Professor and the Hallman Director of the School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on the development and application of physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models in the areas of pharmaceuticals and human health risk assessment. Dr. Edginton heads the modeling component of the Web-Accessible Population Pharmacokinetics Service – Hemophilia (WAPPS-Hemo.org) project for tailoring treatment prophylaxis in persons with hemophilia; used in 50+ countries and is the COO of MAPflow, a Minor Ailment Prescribing workflow software.

Dr. Kirsten Muller

Dr. Kirsten Müller is Professor and previous Chair of Biology, University of Waterloo. Currently, she is the Associate Vice-President, Research Grants, and Infrastructure in the Office of Research. Her research focuses on aquatic ecosystems and interdisciplinary approaches to water sustainability. Dr. Müller is also Managing Editor of the Journal of Phycology and actively promotes equity and decolonization in her academic leadership, teaching, and research.

Dr. Maya Przybylski

Maya Przybylski is O’Donovan Director and Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture and co-founder of DATAlab. Her research integrates architectural design and software engineering to advance critical approaches to computational and data-driven practices. Supported by SSHRC, her Soft Materials project develops architecture-specific methodologies. Professor Przybylski is a founding editor of Bracket, a series on architecture, environment, and digital culture.

About the moderator:

Dr. Jennifer Whitson

Dr. Jennifer Whitson is an Associate Professor in the Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, University of Waterloo. Her research focuses on the secret life of software, the people who make it, and how both change our daily lives. Dr. Whitson’s current research projects centre on digital media incubators, indie game makers, and on the surveillance implications of data-drive design.
