Safeguarding Science workshop is being offered by Public Safety's Research Security Centre to raise awareness of research security issues.
This panel focuses on issues relating to free speech, hate speech laws, and freedom of expression in and beyond university environments. It brings significant attention to the wealth and poverty of free speech, to university conduct under the rubric of expanding freedom of expression, and to matters concerning the banning of symbols, emblems, flags, uniforms, and insignia under hate speech laws.
The Henry G. Friesen International Prize in Health Research, established in 2005 by the Friends of Canadian Institutes of Health Research (FCIHR), annually recognizes exceptional innovation by a visionary health leader of international stature. Dr. Brenda Andrews is the 2025 Prize winner and will give a public talk at the University of Waterloo on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, in conjunction with the Friesen Prize Program. Dr. Andrews will also engage in a panel discussion with several Waterloo faculty members before her lecture. See registration page for more details.
