Research focus

The Mitacs Globalink Research Award (GRA) program supports research collaborations between Canada and eligible countries and regions through intern(s) international mobility

Under the joint supervision of a home and host professor, successful senior undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows can do one or two 12-24 weeks internship(s)

The program supports research across all fields (e.g., STEM, social sciences, health, humanities)

Awards are offered in partnership with Mitacs’ Canadian academic institution partners and are subject to available funding

Applicants are encouraged to seek support from other funding sources to cover all expenses and use prudence when allocating funds to travel and accommodations

Mitacs funds must be spent according to the budget in the application and Tri-Agency eligible expenses. See Mitacs’ use of funds for details of eligible expenses for Mitacs programs

Program submission instructions

Please see program website for application details. Faculty interested in a Mitacs program should complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Review relevant program website for more information and email OR contact and our Mitacs Advisor to confirm allocation availability. If available, begin drafting the relevant application
  2. Draft the application in collaboration with Mitacs Advisor, the industry partner, and project interns (where appropriate)
  3. Submit UW Electronic Cover Sheet with draft (unsigned) application. Reach out to the Office of Research Mitacs Program contact for more information
  4. Submit a draft of the full application to Office of Research Mitacs Program contact to start the Research Security Risk Assessment process. This process takes 1–2 weeks 
  5. Once the final draft is completed, collect signatures from the faculty, industry partners, and student interns involved with the project
  6. Once signatures are collected, send final application package to the Office of Research Mitacs Program contact for review and OR signature. Once signed, the application will be returned to the PI and Mitacs Advisor for submission
  7. Work with Mitacs Advisor to submit the application to Mitacs
  8. Begin your ethics application (if applicable)
