Four University of Waterloo researchers have been named new or renewing Canada Research Chairs (CRC).
The announcement by the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, is part of a $139 million investment to support 176 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs across Canada. The Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) has also committed to investing more than $6 million to support research infrastructure needs of 29 CRCS across Canada through its John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF).
Waterloo researchers named in the announcement are:

Professor and University Research Chair, Global Water Sustainability and Ecohydrology, jointly appointed between the departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth and Environmental Sciences
New CRC in Global Water Sustainability and Ecohydrology, Tier 1, $1.4 million over seven years
CFI-JELF: Measuring and Modelling Fine-scale Phosphorous Dynamics in Agricultural Watersheds ($106,809)

Associate Professor, Communication Arts
New CRC in Race, Gender, and Performance, Tier 2, $500,000 over five years (plus a $100,000 research stipend)

Professor, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and Director of the Waterloo Microfluidics Laboratory
New CRC in Microfluidic Technologies, Tier 1, $1.4 million over seven years
CFI-JELF: Droplet Microfluidics and Microfluidics Enabled Soft Robotic Wearables ($100,000)

Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering
Renewed CRC in Autonomous Systems, Tier 2, $500,000 over five years
