Research and teaching projects conducted on or off-campus by students, staff, or faculty involving live, non-human vertebrate animals must be reviewed and receive ethics clearance.
Animals are only used in research projects deemed to have scientific merit and in teaching and testing when there are no alternatives.
Animal-based research must conform with:
- Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) standards and guidelines
- Animals for Research Act
- University of Waterloo statement on animal use in research and teaching (PDF)
