Policy 73: Have you disclosed your IP?

Development and commercialization of IP is increasingly used as a metric by governments in their assessment of universities and by international agencies in their publicized rankings of universities.

To ensure that Waterloo researchers are reaping the full benefit of our prowess in innovation, entrepreneurship, IP creation and commercialization, the Intellectual Property and Commercialization Activity Disclosure form is crucial. The form provides the necessary electronic support for the collection, storage and reporting of intellectual property (IP) held by members of the Waterloo research community.

The form:

  • provides a centralized system to capture IP and commercialization activity
  • improves reporting of holdings/activity which ultimately impact Waterloo’s rankings and reputation
  • is a concise, easy-to-use web-based form

Reporting IP is a year round activity. All researchers are required to report their IP, even if they don't have any. Read the Daily Bulletin for more information about this new process.
