It is also the largest and most competitive student vehicle design competition in the world. The Formula SAE Competition challenges students to design, fabricate, market, and race a brand-new small formula-style open wheeled race car every year.
The competition is divided into two main categories, static and dynamic events. The static events consist of engineering design competition, marketing presentation, cost report, and technical inspection.
The dynamic events include acceleration, skid pad, autocross, and 22 km endurance.
