Statistics and Actuarial Science professor and director of the Data Analytics Lab Ali Ghodsi has been named a 2018 Vector Institute Faculty Affiliate.
This Faculty Affiliate Program brings together leading researchers from across Ontario to expand expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) – specifically in deep learning and machine learning. It plays a key role in developing, growing, and diversifying knowledge and research within the AI community, and facilitates industry partnerships where interests align.
Cross-appointed with the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science, Ghosdi’s computational statistics research focuses in the areas of machine learning and probabilistic modelling. His work developing new machine learning algorithms for analyzing large-scale data sets has applications in data mining, pattern recognition, robotics, computer vision, sequential decision making, and bioinformatics.
This appointment provides Ghodsi with more opportunity as a researcher – to host events on topics related to his research and to participate in Vector programming, including networking events, workshops, summer schools, and talks.
Ghodsi is one of nine professors from the Faculty of Mathematics included in the 2018 cohort of Vector Institute Faculty Affiliates. Read more about the other recipients.
