As a master’s student, Chris Salahub completed a project focused on reducing the risk for cyclists on the busy streets of Zurich. His passion for leveraging data to solve real-world problems is what drew him back to the Faculty of Mathematics, where he previously earned a bachelor’s degree, to pursue a PhD in statistics.
Today, he revels in the process of using data to measure the relationship between two complex things. “In my experience, there aren’t many data sets that you can’t have some fun trying to analyze,” he said. Whether he is using the theory of pairwise association to compare data sets or coming up with a visualization of his father’s travels in his spare time, he aims to “tell a story that goes beyond numbers” at every step of the way.
